Wait for the hunger burn. In addition to eating at the right time, as per the daily routine, the best guide to know when to eat is to wait until you feel a hunger burn. That âburningâ hunger sensation is actually agni (fire, burn!) letting you know itâs ready for food. If you have not paid much attention to when you feel hungry and when you donât, this will be a powerful practice to start. Your body tells you what it needs all the time, and when you honor its signals, you will intuitively know how to care for it. Impactful learning and healing happen when you actually tap into what your body needs!
Not too much quantity. If you refer back to chapter 4, youâll notice that two out of the three meals happen in kapha time, which is slow and heavy. So, you might need way less food than you think you do. We have grown accustomed to large quantities, so letâs use this as knowledge to adjust portion sizes that support the bodyâs digestion and proper building of tissues. Otherwise, we are just being driven by our taste buds (which is just ego, btw), which can cause us to overeat.
